The level of customer service that Shawn Nelson, the Funeral Director, provided was truly remarkable. He was compassionate, kind, professional, patient, and attentive from start to finish. He went above and beyond! All the logistical items were clear and their pricing was reasonable and upfront with no hidden costs. The funeral home was flexible to our needs and I would highly recommend using their services.

Thank you for your service this past January when Mom passed away. Your professionalism and patience in the handling of the unhinged family members that could have made this event so unpleasant you handled with patience, care and expertise. Thank you.

Both of my parents made their wishes known to my sister and I that when they passed away they wanted their bodies to be cremated. I contacted Scott Bernard in September 2016 to let him know my mother's health was failing. Mother passed away at a nursing home in Bay City, Texas on the 3rd of October 2016 @ 3:00 A.M. She was sharing a room at the nursing home with my father so shortly after she passed away a local funeral home picked my Mother's body up to keep until Gateway Funerals and Cremation could pick her up. I called Scott Bernard at 8:00 A.M. on the 3rd and he personally drove to Bay City on very short notice to pick up my Mother's body. He knew my sister and I would have our hands full that day being with our Dad trying to comfort him. Scott arrived in Bay City at about 4:00 P.M. and sent me a text letting me know he had my Mother and was on his way back to Dallas. Scott was so respectful, caring, considerate and compassionate. My sister and I immediately knew that we had made the right decision when we entrusted our mother to Scott's care. Scott even sent me a text letting me know when he got back to Dallas.

My father's mental and physical health began slowly diminishing over the last 2 1/2 years and on July 15th of this year my sister and I were told by my father's physician that my father could no longer swallow and it was time to put him into hospice care which we did the next day. I immediately notified Gateway to let them know about my Dad's condition. Scott and his staff stayed in contact with me and unfortunately at 5:30 P.M. on July 18, 2019 my father passed away. The local funeral home in Bay City picked my father up from the nursing home an hour later. Gateway left Dallas later that evening, picked up my father's body early the next morning and were back in Dallas by about 9:00 A.M.

Scott Bernard and his staff gave my sister and I the peace and comfort we desperately needed when we lost our parents. I highly recommend Gateway Funerals & Cremation to anyone wanting their deceased loved ones, as well as the surviving family members, cared for in a respectful, caring, and compassionate manner.

I had never had to deal with funeral arrangements until my grandfather's passing. My grandfather passed after a short and unexpected battle with cancer, so my family was extremely vulnerable during that time. As we "shopped" around with various funeral homes, I noticed that most of them were completely unsympathetic and I felt like I was just another business transaction for them. When we met with Scott, it was a completely different experience. He was sympathetic, patient, kind, knowledgeable, prompt and fair. His prices were also unbeatable and very affordable compared to other funeral homes.

Scott also assisted us in getting the appropriate paperwork to be able to transport my grandfather to his native home, Mexico. Scott went out of his way to make sure we had all of the documents that the Mexican Consulate required and even had them translated for us. The Mexican Consulate is not the easiest agency to deal with, but Scott worked diligently to make sure everything was in order. We were initially advised that the entire process would take 5-6 weeks, but Scott made it happen in less than 2 weeks after my grandfather's passing. It was a huge weight lifted off our shoulder's knowing that my grandfather was in his final resting place.

I highly recommend Gateway Funerals and Cremation. You will definitely get the support from Scott and his staff to help you through the difficult journey of losing a loved one.

Gateway was one of three funeral homes that were recommended to me by a hospice social worker as, "Just as good, but lower cost." In 2001, I used one of Gateway's nearby higher priced competitors - and the social worker is right. Gateway provides the same thing just a lower price. I chose them over the other 2 recommended funeral homes, because Gateway provides everything from a low-cost cremation to a full blown funeral, with space on site for a funeral service.

The main thing that really, really impressed me was how the funeral director Scott Bernard did not try to up sell us. Pricing is clearly laid out on the website. The only reason we went for a fancier option is because after *I asked* about it, we decided the fancier option was better for us.

Now, be aware, one of the ways that Gateway Funerals and Cremation keeps costs down is by having their funeral home in a strip mall instead of in a stand-alone building on the edge of a pretty cemetery. This was off putting at first, till we walked inside. Then it didn’t seem to matter at all. It reminded me of the higher priced competitor from 18 years before.

I found Scott Bernard to be the consummate professional. I had high expectations going in - and he delivered. His assistant, Alex, did a fine job with the extras we ordered (some Service Programs and a video slide show to be played at a funeral reception).

Let me also note, that I was thoroughly impressed with Gateway's director who came to our house to pick up my deceased relative. I was impressed with their ability to manage a difficult situation in the middle of the night all while having to navigate an understandably upset family. My hat is off to him.

If you were looking for a place for your loved one I cannot tell you enough this was one of the most comfortable things I’ve had to do in a long time. But Scott and his family took care of my family could not have been more professional. I’m telling everybody that I know this is the only way to go for your family there is no reason to get ripped off. Take your time visit with Scott I promise you he will take great care of you and your family give him a chance and I guarantee it will be Exactly what you’re looking for.

My uncle’s sudden passing was extremely difficult. I remember picking up the phone to call nearby funeral homes. Mr. Scott was my third phone call and I felt his genuine compassion over the phone for my loss. We met later in person with my family members and we were all impressed by his level of care and professionalism. We chose Gateway Funerals and Cremation because of Mr. Scott and how well he took care of us throughout the entire process. His location is very clean and presentable. I give Mr. Scott my recommendation!

Although I had not met with anyone at Gateway at the time of my mother's death, Gateway staff responded to my 11:30 pm call and transported my mother to their premises immediately. And although the service was held 60 miles outside Dallas, Mr. Bernard and his staff managed it with skill and compassion. Gateway's approach to service is to offer several affordable funeral packages to families, which simplified the process at a time where survivors are ill-equipped to make complex decisions. I have no reservations in recommending Mr. Bernard and Gateway's services.

Gateway knows what they are doing and are also very sincere and understanding of the emotional state of mind of losing a loved one. They do not nickel and dime you. You get a fair price for the services they offer. Such a breath of fresh air and we could not have been more pleased with how our loved one was taken care of and how everything was handled and explained.

My mom's funeral was held by them. First they are on time and fast. Once my mom just was announced to pass away. The hospice just call Gateway since they always did good job. The owner Mr. Scott came over to take my mom. He is very professional and kind, the way he talked to me made me feel touched and warm since I have lost my mom. During the whole funeral preparation. First, he didn't intentionally convince me to do more things to make more profit. He will never take any advantage of your lost since you could be very emotional and desperate to do as much as you can to honor your lost. He suggested us a comprehensive package which both sides of us get agreed. Also, I saw the way they dressed my mom, whole process runs very smooth so that made me feel they were dressing up a baby. Just feel so nice of them. On the day of the funeral, They were here early in the morning, got everything set up, keeping asking what do I need so that they can help. The staff was so attentive. We had a lot of visitors. After funeral, my mom was cremated. We received a call from them to pick up my mom.. In a word, they did great job to comfort passed person and her family members. Also yes, they run a business. However, they do that by respecting customers and moral behaviors.

Okay...My mother worked as a secretary at two funeral homes when I was growing up. I know how it works. Not at Gateway. If you want a professionally handled service, Gateway delivers. And sorry, they won’t charge you $10K-$15K .

My family was so impressed with Scott and how he handled the cremation of my sister-in-law. He was so accommodating, and on short notice drove down to Bay City, TX, to pick up the body. Not only were we very pleased in the way he handled it all, but the price charged was very reasonable. It was so much cheaper to pay mileage to Dallas than to have the cremation done in Bay City.

My mother's Hospice recommended Gateway Funerals and Cremation to me. I talked to them several months before my mom passed, and was informed that all I had to do was call them when the time came. There was no paperwork to fill out, no visit to the funeral home needed in advance. The day my mom passed, I called and spoke to Scott. He immediately came to her apartment and carefully transferred her to the Gateway SUV, specially fitted to handle this kind of movement. A few hours later I was at Gateway. Scott couldn't have been kinder. I knew we were going to have a cremation, and he was a gem in explaining everything. They handled the details of the death certificate and everything related to the cremation. We are having a service at a later date in another city. So once her cremated remains were ready, I arranged a time to pick up her ashes. Again, Scott was as kind as could be.

I highly endorse Gateway. So many funeral homes seem to take advantage of a client at a difficult time in their life. The pricing of services at Gateway is very clear, very affordable, and they do not push you to purchase services you do not need. They are able to provide a visitation and hold services on site. While I didn't need these services, the areas for these are thoughtfully decorated and well maintained.

I do not anticipate a need for their services again soon, but Gateway will be my funeral home of choice if the need arises.
