Scott Bernard

Scott Bernard

Funeral Director and Owner

After working for over 10 years in Corporate Finance and Operational Support roles for large publicly traded conglomerates of funeral homes and cemeteries, I left the corporate world in pursuit of opening a state of the art funeral home to provide exceptional and compassionate care at an affordable cost. In 2013 I began my journey by enrolling in mortuary school to become a licensed funeral director and business owner which has allowed me to better serve families who are facing one of the most difficult times of their lives. In addition to being a licensed funeral director, I hold a Bachelors of Business Administration and Masters of Business Administration, both with a concentration in Finance. My vision was to modify the traditional funeral home model to one that has lower overhead expenses allowing us to pass those savings on to grieving families. Gateway Funerals and Cremation is able to provide the very best level of service at a significantly lower cost than many funeral homes. My goal is to help grieving families through one of the most difficult times of their lives without creating a financial burden and doing so with the utmost dignity and respect.

Michelle Bernard

Co-Owner

"Every single person is deserving of a proper and personalized farewell, regardless of their financial situation. I believe dignity and respect are God given rights, especially in death. I’m proud to have the opportunity to give back. Doing so beside my husband only makes our lives more meaningful.”

Michelle Bernard is a native Texan. She was born in Dallas, but grew up between Dallas/Fort Worth and Ventura, California. She is married to Scott Bernard and has three sons; Trevor, Preston, and Kaden. Michelle grew up in a very happy and active home, but early in her life, she became acutely aware of mortality while helping care for her ailing mother and little brother, prior to their passing. These losses led her to pursue her nursing degree, and she has spent the last 10 years as a triage nurse in family healthcare. The transition from nursing to the death care industry was easy for Michelle, because she believes it is “nursing for the soul”. She has first-hand knowledge of the financial strain funeral services can put on a family, and it is her goal to provide solutions that allow everyone to experience the farewell they deserve. She joined her husband Scott (Co-Owner) at Gateway in 2018.
