William Martin Obituary

William D. “Bill” Martin died on August 4, 2019. Born April 20, 1944 in Allen Junction, West Virginia, Bill spent most of his childhood in Princeton, West Virginia. There he shared home with his mother and father, one brother and three sisters. Always interested in how things worked, he and his brother were taught by their father how to plumb, wire, paint, and other skills needed in keeping a house operative, skills he used throughout his life in our house and those all around the neighborhood. Bill graduated from high school in Princeton and matriculated to Bluefield College and Virginia Tech where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering in 1967. He married his high school sweetheart, Caroline Page, in June of that year and they moved to Dallas where he began his engineering career in the government division of Texas Instruments. He continued working in that division holding positions in design, quality control, and management. Since that division was sold he retired from Raytheon in 2000. In his retirement years he enjoyed being free to help others wherever he saw a need. Throughout his life, whether at work or home, he was always aware of others and their needs. Without ever considering the cost, he acted to fix what was broken, ease another’s pain, suggest and provide resources to bring resolution. No activity was beneath him or above him; he would wash the dishes after an event and lead a decision making committee. Most who knew him were at some time a recipient of his assistance and concern. He will be missed.
