A stroke in January, 2011 left him partially paralyzed on his right side and no longer able to read or write. Over the years he continued to have health issues due to poor blood circulation and lung problems. He was enrolled in a 6-week brain study program for seniors where he learned photography and sewing. He was able to sew several small quilts which he gave to his granddaughters. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and never missed a game if possible.
He suffered another stroke on May 7, 2024 causing mobility issues on his left side. He regained use of his left arm, but never fully recovered his ability to walk or chew food.
He will be missed by many, but by faith we will meet again.
