Terry L. Gaines was born on April 22, 1953 in Anadarko, OK. He was then, from a small child, raised in Lawton, Ok where he attended Douglas Elementary, Central Junior High, and lastly Lawton Senior High School. He lived a vast majority of his adult life in Lawton, Oklahoma, but spent a few years in Colorado in the late 80s/early 90s.
For decades, Terry pursued his love of cars. He worked being a talented auto mechanic with skills in auto body painting at Larry’s Automotive for many years. He had a passion for fast cars and won countless drag races at Lawton Speedway with his cherished race car named Dr. Feel Good.
Some of his hobbies included fishing, grilling, playing cards, socializing & enjoying a drink with his friends & family, and listening to his favorite music. He was an avid sports fan of all sports but he can easily be considered in the top tier for the position of the #1 Dallas Cowboys fan. Terry LOVED his Dallas Cowboys! One of his prized possessions was his Dallas blue Chevy pick-up truck. Everyone in town knew the Cowboy Man’s blue truck when seen cruising through the streets of Lawton.
Terry owned a witty, charismatic personality and a charming smile. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh. He grew up affectionately known to family members as “Toon” as he was just as hilarious as the Saturday morning cartoons that came on every week.
He transitioned from this earthly life on May 12, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents Percy Albert Jones, Sr & LaVerne Jones as well as his brothers: Vernon Carl Gaines-Bentley and Percy Albert Jones, Jr, and his sister Ruby “Rip” Johnson and maternal & paternal grandparents.
He leaves to lament his passing six children: Carla Gaines & Darla Gaines-Greer of Dallas, TX, Temethia Robinson & Thaddius “TJ” Robinson, of Lawton, Okla, Terry Gaines, Jr of Colorado, and Devon Gaines of Lawton, Okla and a fruitful amount of grandchildren. Also his sisters Mary Jones and Charleszetta (Billy) Hollings, of Dallas, TX, his adored aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of close friends who love and will miss him dearly.
