Terry Crawford Obituary

Terry Dean Crawford, age 71, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 after a long and valiant struggle with several chronic health conditions.

Terry was born in Crystal City, Texas to Robert S. and Betty E. (Zimmerman) Crawford in late 1950.  As a proud 5th generation Texan who could trace his ancestry directly to the Battle of San Jacinto, he had an idyllic childhood growing up in the small town of Uvalde.  Even from a young age it was clear that Terry had a strong, kind, independent and ambitious spirit, as he demonstrated by obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout.  After graduating from Uvalde High School in 1969, Terry went on to attend Baylor University before returning to South Texas.  A naturally talented salesman who enjoyed telling stories and chatting with everyone he met, Terry’s unique gift for making people feel at ease took him far in his chosen career.

Terry was also something of a renaissance man, generously sharing with others his passion for a diverse range of hobbies and interests that included everything from gold prospecting and collecting arrowheads to Texas history and classic movies.  After discovering an interest in historical reenactment, Terry became an avid repeat participant in the Salado Legends production at Tablerock.  In addition to his many more worldly pursuits, Terry was also a life-long and devoted Christian.  Generous with both time and money, he served as a shining example of God’s love to friends and strangers alike.  Although he was faced with several physical challenges in the last decade of his life, he used this adversity as a demonstration of his faith.

Nothing in this world was more important to Terry than his family. He cherished getting to play the role of doting father and grandfather and loved few things more than spending time with his children and grandchild.  Terry is survived by his eldest daughter, Amanda and her husband, Mark Beebe; youngest daughter, Megan; only son, Robert and granddaughter (Robert’s daughter), Luna.  Terry is also survived by his twin brother, Larry and sister, Betty Ann Mathis, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 10am to 11:30am on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Gateway Funerals and Cremations in Dallas, Texas immediately before an 11:30am celebration of life service.  Terry will be buried at noon on Saturday, August 13, 2022 after a short graveside remembrance at Salado Cemetery in historic Salado, Texas.
