Ruth Brown Obituary

Ruth Carolyn Brown passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017. Ruth was born in 1944 in Belzoni, MS to Omer and Johnnie Ruth Miller. After high school, Ruth joined the US Army in order to earn money for college. She served as an army medic, stateside, during the Vietnam War and was stationed in San Antonio, TX and Oklahoma. During her time in San Antonio, she went on a blind date with Ronald Brown, who was then a Captain in the US Air Force. Their date was so successful that they were married in Massachusetts in 1966, had two children, Kenneth and Kimberly, permanently settling in Dallas, TX in the 1970s, and remained married for over 51 years.
Ruth was a devoted wife and mother and worked in retail management and insurance. Ruth was known to her family and friends as a friendly, lively, and warm woman, who always wore a big smile, loved to laugh and never met a stranger. She was very intelligent, and always up to date on current events. She had many interests and hobbies, including cooking, baking, drawing, painting, singing, sewing, knitting, arts and crafts, reading (books, newspapers, magazines, etc.), traveling, and discussing politics. She also loved animals and had pets throughout her life, including dogs, cats, birds, and horses.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Ronald Brown; children, Kenneth Brown, Kimberly Kirk, and Serena Ellis: daughter-in-law, Karen Brown; and son-in-law, Barry Kirk; grandchildren, Shaun Brown, Christopher Brown, Dustin Terry, Hailey Terry, and Meghan Terry; great-grandson, Mason Brown, and brother, James Miller. She is preceded in death by her parents, Omer and Johnnie Ruth Miller, brother, Jerry Miller, and step-son, Richard Brown.
