Rickey Burns Obituary

Rickey Lester Burns, 77, of Sanger, Texas (formerly of Escondido, California) passed away on June 13, 2019 in Denton, Texas.

He was born December 7, 1941 in Alhambra, California to Maurice and Grace (Strieff) Burns. They moved to Escondido in 1943 where he graduated from Escondido High School in 1959.

After high school he attended Palomar College. In July of 1963 he married Gloria Jean.

He spent most of his life (50+ years) in the construction industry with Louetto Construction, Jamac Construction, then his own company, Acropolis Pacific. When he was young, in his free time he enjoyed racing motorcycles, even racing in the Baja 500 in Mexico. In the early 70's Rickey moved he and his family to Hawaii, where his career in the construction industry flourished.

After he retired he went on to do handyman work and shared his extensive skill set with many others. He did have an adventurous side. He once traveled around the US via Greyhound bus, stopping and sightseeing along the route. He met all kinds of people and even enjoyed chowder in Bar Harbor Maine. One of his favorite things to do was teaching his grandchildren his amazing gift of gab. He never met a stranger and could talk to anyone, anywhere. Rickey had a deep love for all things sports. He had the unique ability to share stats for most any sport, Escondido History and all things construction related. Quick witted and very funny is how most would describe him.

Rickey was preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Grace Burns and Niece Cassandra Davis. He leaves behind many who loved him dearly: Sister Melanie (Jack) Davis of Jamul, California their son Ben, Sister Darina (Ed) Archer of Holualoa, Hawaii, Daughter Sherri (Dan) Sisler of Milwaukie, Oregon their children RaeLynn, Jarrett, Joel, Jordan and Janae, Daughter Mia (Jeff) Pauletto of Kapaa, Kauai their children Justin and Jason, Daughter Michelle (Adam) Lynch of Sanger, Texas their children Triston, Tarrick, Vivianne and Keola. Also, great nieces/nephews, great-grandchildren, cousins, and many friends.

A celebration of life will be held in Hanalei, Kauai, Hawaii in June of 2020.
