Ray Huebner Obituary

Lt. Col Ray Everett Huebner, USMC Retired, passed away in Denton at the age of 80 on September 19, 2019 after a battle with Alzheimer’s. Ray was born on July 10, 1939 in Bancroft, Kansas to Samuel and Ruby (Graber) Huebner. He graduated from Bushton, Kansas Rural High School in 1957. Ray attended Kansas State University and graduated on January 30, 1962 with a degree in electrical engineering. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps and on February 2 married his college sweetheart.  After going on active duty, he was designated as a Communications Officer and Electronics Engineer. Ray attended many military schools including the Naval Postgraduate School where he received his Master’s Degree.  During his twenty-year career, Ray served 2 tours in Vietnam and tours in California, Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, New Jersey, Okinawa and Japan.  His personal decorations included the Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation and Navy Achievement Medals.  In 1979 he was the Marine Corps nominee to the Space Shuttle program. He retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1982.

After the Marine Corps, he worked in the private sector as a communications engineer in Texas, Germany, and Saudi Arabia. Ray retired to Dallas in 1995 where he volunteered in the community and with the Marine Corps League. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing with his grandchildren, gardening, running, and volunteering with Toys for Tots every Christmas. Ray is survived by his wife of 57 years, Glenda “Glee” Reed Huebner; daughter Kristi Huebner Smyers and husband John of Denton; son Jeffrey Reed Huebner and wife Kelley of Dallas; brother David Huebner and wife Carole of Ft. Worth; twin brother Jay Huebner and wife Jeanne of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter Rachael Smyers Forbis and husband Alex of Austin; twin grandsons Michael of Denton and Daniel Smyers and wife Bailey of Fort Worth; granddaughter Lillian “Geni” Huebner of Dallas; numerous nephews and nieces. Ray was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Ruby Graber Huebner; brothers Glen Huebner and Gerald Huebner. 

 A memorial service for Ray Huebner is scheduled for Saturday, October 19th, 2019 at 1 PM at NorthPark Presbyterian Church.

Interment is scheduled for Monday, October 21, 2019.  Gather at the main gate of the DFW National Cemetery at 10:15 AM.
