Phyllis "GP" McGraw Obituary

Phyllis Louise McGraw (known as “GP” to her loving family) was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on the evening of January 5, 2025. Phyllis was born on April 4, 1936, in Woodward, Oklahoma, the second child of Coomer and Margaret Elliott. After the family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, Phyllis would marry Jack Hunter, growing their family by the arrival of her beloved daughter Terry Lee.

Later, Phyllis married Royce Ray McGraw with their marriage producing two brothers for Terry. Bradley Ray and Curtis Ray were added to this dynamic group. Along the way, Royce’s son, Larry Ray, became a part of this loving family and the six of them enjoyed all the various issues of life together. After thriving for decades in Oklahoma City and Edmond, Oklahoma, Phyllis moved to Arlington, Texas. Always industrious, she worked hard and her last employment before retiring was as an Immunization Coordinator. She lived with her daughter in Arlington until her death.

Phyllis was predeceased by her husbands, her parents, her brother Quan; her sister Sandra Patricia Sturges, and nephew Larry Elliott. She also leaves behind her nephew Johnny Skelton, Jr. and wife Carol, her nieces and their husbands, Debra and Brad Robinson, Cheryl and Dickey Sours, Sr., and Vicki and Larry Higgins.

She was the grandmother to Alison Paige Wicker (husband, Brent) and Lauren Hayley Boone (husband, Anthony) daughters of Terry; Nicklaus Bradley (wife, Annabel), Britney Rae, and Joseph Daniel, children of Bradley and Laura McGraw; Lantana Rose, Emmaline Ivy, Noah Ray (wife, Taylor), Amelia Ann (husband, Chad Schwenke), Candace Louise, Adelaide Ruth, and Tyson Arthur children of Curtis and Suzanne McGraw; Matthew Edward (wife, Elizabeth) and Jonathan Ray (wife, Julie) sons of Larry and Sandy McGraw.

Taking great pride in her beautiful and smart family, Phyllis celebrated with each of her nine great grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren. The nine “great grands” are: Lily Sabine Wicker, Remington Avery Boone, Harper Lee Boone, Mattie Emerson Boone, Sadie Jo Boone, Braylen Grace McGraw, Reed Christian McGraw, Ainsley Jane McGraw, and Jaxon Carter McGraw. The three “great great-grands” are: Jameson McGraw, Adalida McGraw (“Addy”), and Blaire Anne McGraw. These additions to her life made her “quiver very full.”

A dedicated Christian, Phyllis served her Lord by exercising a very powerful prayer ministry for her family and friends. Demonstrating her gift of giving, she shared her energies, time, and resources with the generations of her family and with friends in Texas and beyond. Active in her faith, GP also spent much time in studying the Bible, reading devotional books, and listening to her favorite prophets.

Time with her family meant everything to her: the competition of playing card games, video games, rejoicing in the life events of all her family, and being considered by her family as an outstanding cook. Many would describe her as a great friend and an example of what it means to live like Jesus. Her energy, knowledge and unwavering dedication to God have left a lasting legacy. A mentor to many, always generous with her time and resources, she will be missed. Just days ago, she was welcomed into the heavenly worship as she heard the words of our Lord—“Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

As the matriarch of the McGraw Family, Phyllis lived a long, full, productive God-honoring life and was ready (and eager) to head home. Four kids, fourteen grandkids, nine great grandkids, and three great great-grandkids will miss her, but she now lives in a "no-pain, no-tears" place with loved ones who had preceded her as they worship the one who makes life worth living.

Phyllis spent her last days in a residential group care home under the care of Concho Hearts Hospice. The family would like to acknowledge all the nurses and staff of Concho Hearts Hospice, Unlimited Care of Plano and the wonderful caregiver, Winnie Momberere. The family is forever grateful to you for your excellent care of our Mother.

Plans are underway for a Celebration of Life service at a later date to honor the life of Phyllis McGraw, a life well-lived. Though we will deeply miss Phyllis (“GP”), her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.

Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
Proverbs 31: 28-31 (KJV)
