Najee Grey Obituary

Najee Grey was born on February 7, 1995, in Southern California and later moved to Plano, Texas, with his family in 2008. He grew up in Plano, attending Shepton Middle School, and went on to graduate from Plano West High School. Despite facing learning challenges during his elementary school years, Najee was recognized as one of the top students by his math and science teachers at Plano West High School. Throughout his academic journey, Najee encountered difficulties keeping up with his peers, often feeling different and out of place. However, his family provided unwavering support, arranging tutoring, working closely with his teachers, volunteering at his school, and motivating him with small incentives to ensure his success. Despite needing extra assistance and attending special education classes for some time, Najee's determination led him to earn a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from UT Dallas in 2020.  Notably, he was one of the 11 self-identified African American students to graduate with this degree from the university in the 2019-2020 class. Recognizing that African American students were heavily underrepresented in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields, Najee was keen on inspiring and normalizing Black success across STEM disciplines regardless of societal norms - in his words, “it's okay to want to be a programmer.”

Later in his journey, Najee developed a strong interest in finance and helping others achieve financial stability. Recognizing the profound impact of financial decisions on an individual's future, he was determined to assist others in navigating their financial paths. Najee took pride in obtaining his Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) license and launched his own website with the goal of empowering minorities and others interested in pursuing financial independence.

Najee is survived by his cherished cat Leroy, whom he considered his closest companion, along with his father, mother, brother, stepfather, three aunts, grandparents, and numerous friends. Known for his unforgettable personality and social nature, Najee was a caring individual who often showed his love through thoughtful gestures, like buying a special candle for his aunt's law school graduation. Despite appearing small, these gestures held immense sentimental value for Najee, reflecting his frugal nature except when expressing love for those closest to him. At the dinner celebration, he took the opportunity to emphasize the thoughtfulness behind his gift, ensuring it would serve as a meaningful reminder of their bond. He was humorous, quick to apologize, and had a passion for various activities including swimming, water polo, artwork, cooking, flying drones, cycling, studying sea fossils, stones, and minerals. Najee's vibrant spirit and caring nature touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him.

Najee will always be Loved and Never forgotten, as he made an everlasting impact on everyone he encountered. We love you Najee!
