On Sunday, July 21st, 2024, Meredith Desmond died at the age of 90 in Plano, Texas. Meredith Jane Gardiner was born to Harold Casey Gardiner and Dorothy May King Gardiner on December 30th,1933 in Providence, Rhode Island. She was sister to Lois, Rosemary, Avice, Emmerson, Richard, Harold, and Kenny. After High School, she worked for years as an American Airlines flight attendant which enabled her to travel Europe solo, an experience that remained dear to her for the rest of her life. After returning to the States, she met Richard “Dick” Desmond (National Hockey Hall of Fame-er and 1952 Olympic medalist). They were married in July 1960 at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. Together, they lived in Texas and later California where they raised their three sons: Matt, Richard, and Chris. Meredith went on to major in History at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Meredith would regularly drive her sons from California to her beloved New Hampshire for the summer. She loved to wear Coco Chanelle Mademoiselle perfume and anything Ralph Lauren. She also adored lemon-flavored confections. Meredith was a wonderful conversationalist and enjoyed talking to anyone and everyone and would make everyone feel special. She will be greatly missed by those that loved her. Following the death of Dick Desmond, Meredith married Herb Cropper and following his death, Ken Sorensen.
Meredith was predeceased by her parents; her husbands; her siblings, Lois Nelson, Richard Gardiner, Avis Gardiner, Rosemary Brodeaur, Emerson Gardiner, Harold Gardiner; and her son, Matt Desmond. She is survived by two of her sons, Richard Desmond and Chris Desmond; her beloved niece, Tania Hassard; two cherished granddaughters, Nora Desmond and Cate Desmond; her brother, Kenneth Gardiner; and her boyfriend, Harold Graham.
