Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Anderson passed away peacefully on November 3. She was born September 14, 1917 in Wheeling, WV to Anne and Joseph NeMackey. She saw many changes in her 100 years: Prohibition, women's right to vote, too many wars, commercial air travel, civil rights, and a man on the moon to name but a few.. She grew up during the Great Depression. While not able to obtain higher education, she was very wise. She loved entertaining, playing bridge, travel, people, and family. Her wealth was in friendships. Betty was outgoing, if you ever met her, you would not forget her because she never met a stranger. She was kind and generous and will be missed by many.
She met her future husband (Byron Alton Anderson, deceased 1983) while working in a night club in Wheeling, and they were married when he returned from the Pacific Theater at the end of World War II. They settled in Beaumont, Texas, and moved to San Antonio in 1947, where she worked for Studer's Photography until 1978. In retirement, Betty played bridge and enjoyed friends (Billie Mann, Richard Arthur).
Betty relocated to Denton in 2005 to be close to her daughter. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was a regular at the Senior Center, playing party bridge with friends (Elaine Terrill, Sue Judd and Hanci Toffeson). Special thanks to Lou Longshore her longtime friend and driver (her independence). Thanks to Lisa Haynes and her daughter Lindsey Haynes for their kindnesses and affection for Betty.
She moved to Denton Rehab and Nursing in July 2016. Thanks to all there, especially Libby, Christine, Shi, Denise and so many CNAs.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Byron Anderson, her parents, her sister (Agnes Bosher) and brother (Joseph Roe).
Betty is survived by daughter Mary E. Anderson and son-in-law Thomas R. Cundari of Denton; nieces Pat Bosher of Lewisville and Baltimore, MD and Sarah Roe¬¬¬¬ of Lexington, KY, and Cassie her fur Grandchild.
At Betty's request, there will be no service; Gateway Funerals and Cremation will handle the cremation.
