Martha Tyler Obituary

On the afternoon of April 6, 2021, MARTHA ORELEAN TYLER passed away after a four-year courageous battle with colon cancer. She was 61 years old.

MARTHA was born on October 22, 1959 in Port Arthur, Texas. She was the ninth child and third daughter of Marjorie Leah Delmar Jackson and Junius James Jackson Sr. She spent her adolescent years in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Denver, Colorado. She attended California State University, Chico where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. Shortly after graduation, Martha moved to San Antonio, Texas where she became an educator. Holding positions as an elementary school teacher, assistant director of a child development center, and home daycare owner, Martha valued education and the importance of pouring into young people.

MARTHA was preceded in death by Marjorie Leah Delmar Jackson, Junius James Jackson Sr., Samuel Jackson, and Stephen Jackson.

MARTHA is survived by her two children: Leah Janelle Tyler and Joshua Nathanael Tyler, and her grandchild: Shainen Lee Avery Tyler. She is also survived by her siblings: Robert Jackson, Junius Jackson, Marjorie Jackson, Charles “Charlie” Jackson, Yvonne Jackson, Michael Jackson, and Ulysses “Joey” Jackson. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her adoring family and friends, those named and unnamed.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 from 10 AM to 12 PM at Gateway Funerals and Cremation located on 17390 Preston Rd. Suite 310 Dallas, TX, 75252.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude for the care given by VITAS Healthcare, UT Southwestern Medical Center, Parkland Memorial Hospital, Methodist Mansfield Hospital, and Texas Cancer Center. Thank you to these healthcare providers for their part in the treatment and care of Martha.
