Margaret (Marge) Olson--Obituary
OLSON, Margaret Joan - Passed away with peace on July 27, 2017, with her family at her side. Predeceased by her loving husband Owen of 54 years in 2006. Survived by sons Keith Owen Olson of Loveland, Colorado, Robin Keary Olson of Richardson, Texas, and Blake Warren Olson of Boise, Idaho. Other caring survivors include sister Evie Lawdahl and her husband Harry of Mesa, Arizona, daughter-in-law Janet Larsen of Loveland, Colorado and five grandchildren, including Shaun Ellery Olson of Manteo, North Carolina, Justin Keith Olson-Larsen and wife Keri Olson-Larsen of Parker, Colorado, Corwin Grant Olson and wife Lindsey Marie Olson of Austin, Texas, Staaysha Nicole Olson-Larsen of Loveland, Colorado, and Cambri Linea Olson of Dallas, Texas. In addition, Marge is survived by two amazing great grandchildren-Mason Michael Olson-Larsen and Grant Theodore Olson. Lastly, she was predeceased by her dear sister Muriel Schultz.
Marge was born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1929 to John and Jeanne Van Gorkom. She was raised in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated from North High School in 1947. Marge attended Drake University and earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1971. In addition, she earned a master's degree in special education from Texas A&M in Commerce, Texas along with an educational diagnostician's certification.
Marge was employed by the Richardson Independent School District for 22 years as a resource teacher and later as a reading recovery teacher. She also tutored and tested children on a private basis. She volunteered at a variety of nursing homes and the Arapaho United Methodist Church in Richardson. Lastly, she was an active member of the Richardson Retired Teachers Association.
Marge was passionate about life and was an amazingly positive person in countless ways. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and creating unique and awesome hand-crafted cards, most with pressed flowers and leaves. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose greatest passion was helping others.
A service will be held at the Arapaho United Methodist Church, 1400 West Arapaho, Richardson, Texas on Saturday, August 12 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arapaho United Methodist Church. A later graveside service will occur in Kanawha, Iowa, date to be determined.
A true inspiration, she leaves us rich in beautiful memories-vibrantly living in our hearts forever.
