It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, who died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 6:30 PM, in Dallas, Texas. She was 50 years old.
Born on October 15, 1974, at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, she was the daughter of Keith and Rebecca Spencer. She faced a courageous battle with MELAS (Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy, Lactic Acidosis, and Stroke-like Episodes), a mitochondrial disorder. She began experiencing symptoms in 2021, entered hospice care in February 2025, and had been bed-ridden for the past three weeks. Her husband, Philip Cook, was at her bedside as she peacefully departed.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Rebecca Spencer, and her brother, Billy Spencer, both of whom also succumbed to MELAS.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Philip Cook, her cherished daughter, Sarah Cook, and her loving father, Keith Spencer. She also leaves behind her dear sisters, Tracy Viri and Jennifer Carey.
Memorial services to celebrate her life will be held in both Dallas, Texas, and Modesto, California (her hometown). Details regarding these services will be announced at a later date.
