Joan Minerva Flanagan, residing in Greenville, TX, left this earth to join her heavenly father and those who passed before her, on January 11, 2021.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Katherine Mores, husband, Dennis Flanagan, brother-in-law Gary Grieser Sr., brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Pat Smith, and sister-in-law Maureen Mores. She is survived by her sons, Daniel Flanagan and Scott Flanagan, his wife, Wendy Flanagan, grandson, Sammy Flanagan, brother Herb Mores, brothers and sisters-in-law Art and Diane Chaffee, Helen and Wayne Fuller, Linda and Garen Baroorian, and Charlotte Chaffee, her nieces and nephews, Matt, Rebecca, Deanna, Darlene, Cheryl, Kerry, Gary, Doraine, Artie, Christina, Michael and Alicia, and each of their husbands, wives and children.
She was born in Hackensack, NJ in 1946, graduated from Hackensack High School in 1964, attended secretarial school before marrying Dennis in August of 1970.
She signed up for adventure, was a free spirit and was always up for a road trip. Twice she’s driven cross-country, from NJ to CA in the mid-1960’s (flower power!) and again to CA from NC with Scott, in 2010 to attend her nephew Matt’s wedding. She lived overseas in Panama City, Panama where Daniel and Scott were born. She also lived in Heidelberg, Germany, where she traveled to Munich, the Swiss Alps and Paris, France, before returning to Waynesville, MO upon Dennis’ retirement from the Army, and then she and Dennis were led to relocate to Dallas, TX in 1980.
She opted to be a stay-at-home mom to raise her two boys and support her husband Dennis, which allowed her to dabble in her hobbies which included knitting, crocheting, and crafting. She also served as “Den Mother” while the boys were Cub Scouts and was a “Soccer Mom” before it was a thing, attending every soccer match, basketball or baseball game, choir performance, Cub Scout activity and driving them to every practice in between. She was always there to support family and friends, no matter her personal sacrifice.
She was dedicated to her family and believed in the family unit, but her walk with the Lord was first and foremost. She was a servant to others and a mighty prayer warrior, who was an example to each of those whose lives she touched and believed in her Savior with every part of her being. She is in her heavenly place where she belongs.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022, at 10:00 AM, at Church in the City, 6005 Dalrock Rd., Rowlett, TX 75088, followed by the interment of her ashes, along with those of her husband, Dennis, at 1:00 PM at the Dallas-Ft.
