Jerry Wayne Pryor, age 77 of Scurry, TX, passed away on October 8, 2025, at Dallas Presbyterian Hospital. Jerry, husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle, and friend, will be dearly missed by all those who loved him.
Jerry was born on December 29, 1947, in Hopkinsville, KY, to the late Gladys and Roland Pryor. He graduated in the Class of 1966 from Hopkins High School. He married Brenda Worsham on May 15, 1971, and they began their 54+ year journey filled with love, adventure, and family.
Those who preceded him in death are his son, Jeffrey Scott Pryor, his parents, Roland and Gladys Pryor, and his sisters, Laura Kathryn Major and Brenda Joyce (BJ) Pryor. Those left to cherish his memories are: wife, Brenda, son Mark (Lorena, TX), wife Amanda, and their sons Myles and Mason; son Joshua (Lewisville, TX) and his wife Allison, and their son Jeffrey; brother Brandon (Savoy, Illinois) and his wife, Carol. He was very close to his niece and nephews and other extended family. Some of his best memories came from the time with his children, grandchildren, and grandnieces and nephews. Whether it was hosting fishing championships with his grandsons or with his nephew Adam’s family, or playing with his great-grandniece, Andi Claire, or cherishing the role of “Papa” to all, Jerry loved big and will be greatly missed.
Jerry had a great work ethic and enjoyed each position he had. He spent over 50 years working as a Sales Rep in the Home Building Industry. Each new location brought new friendships and new experiences. He truly loved every year, every new experience, and kept in contact with many of the friends he made throughout the years. He began in Hopkinsville, KY (Hooterville) at Moe Light, a lighting fixture manufacturer. Thomas Industries, a company in Louisville, Ky., bought Moe Light, and Jerry began his sales career in 1973. He left Kentucky in 1973 and relocated in Lexington, Illinois. From there, he transferred to Springfield, Illinois; then to Columbus, Ohio; then on to Lexington, Ohio; then Louisville, Ky. In 1985, he was transferred to Coppell, Texas. And Texas has been “home” for 40 years.
After Jerry retired, he enjoyed serving for a few years on the Kaufman Central Appraisal District’s Review Board and served as President of Emergency Services District #5 for the Scurry Fire Department.
Jerry touched many lives and had a playfully wild side; he loved to pick on those he loved the best. So, if he picked on you… know that you were loved. He found joy and
great fulfillment in spending time and interacting with his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving family man and loyal friend.
Jerry was also an active and faithful member of his church, FBC Kaufman. He served on the Safety Team for several years since it began and served as the President of the Agape Bible Study Class for several years. He was always willing to help when asked and found great joy in serving the Lord and others.
He will be missed greatly by his loved ones and friends, but he left each with lots of fun and happy memories to keep in their hearts until they see him again.
