Jan Anderson Obituary

Jan Derryberry Anderson, our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Friend, and Servant of Christ, transitioned into eternity peacefully on Wednesday, April 17th with her daughters by her side. Jan was born in Idabel, Oklahoma on October 20, 1942, and was the second child born to John and Mary Derryberry.

She is now united with her husband, Walter Anderson of Highland Village, Texas as well as her parents John Derryberry, and Mary Derryberry and brother, John A. Derryberry of Idabel.

Jan is survived by her daughter Dianne Kannenwischer and son-in-law Horst Kannenwischer of Highland Village, Texas, grandsons Jordan Rochefort of Nashville, Tennessee, Christian Rochefort of San Marcos, Texas, daughter Mary Beth McDougal of Plano, Texas and sister Betty Derryberry of Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Also special to her are her stepdaughter Marla Anderson Yonis, husband David Yonis, and children Riley and McKenna Yonis of Double Oak, Texas. Jan grew up in Idabel, Oklahoma with a love for horses and all things outdoors.  She enjoyed a close group of childhood girlfriends who remained close throughout her life. Jan also had a love for music. She played the flute and was honored to be chosen as majorette for the Idabel High School Warriors.

Jan later moved to the Dallas area graduating from SMU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She later received her Masters Degree in Speech Pathology from UNT in Denton. Jan loved helping others.  She faithfully served as a Speech Therapist for over 20 years in the Lewisville ISD as well as several rehab centers and assisted living facilities.

One of her greatest joys was spending time at Beaver’s Bend in Broken Bow, Oklahoma with her beloved Walter, daughters and especially her grandsons. This was a respite for her from the stresses of life and where she had made childhood memories learning to swim, hike, fish and camp.  She also had a special love for all animals including many pets throughout her lifetime.

Paramount to Jan’s legacy is her relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Like Christ, she loved unconditionally and always saw the best in others.  Jan enjoyed daily devotionals, teaching women’s bible studies in her home and serving at Village Church. A wonderful highlight of her life was touring Israel with a group of women from Beth Moore Ministries.

If you knew Jan, you knew you were loved.  You knew you were accepted, faults and all.  Jan sacrificially loved and served her family whom she was so proud of.

A Celebration of Life service was held on Saturday, April 27th at 11:00 am at Village Church of Highland Village, 1700 Highland Village Road.

Memorials may be made in Jan’s name to:  The Village Church of Highland Village, 1700 Highland Village Road, Highland Village, TX  75077.
