Jackie Fowler Obituary

Jackie Fowler passed away peacefully at his home in Plano, Texas on Friday, September 15, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Born September 22, 1923 to Lemuel Ozro Fowler and Almeda Joy Fowler, Jackie grew up with his two brothers on the land his father farmed in Lyon County Kansas. He graduated from Emporia High School in Emporia, Kansas. He worked on the Hoover Dam in Nevada from 1942-1947 after which he opened a cement contracting company in Emporia Kansas and operated it for almost 40 years. After being a proud Kansan for his whole life he moved to Plano Texas in 2011 and resided the last seven years in the loving home of his daughter and son-in-law. He was a member of the Emporia Church of the Nazarene where he and his wife were recognized with the Nazarene Distinguished Service Award. Before that he was a member of the First Friends Church where he taught Sunday School.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh with others and even at himself. Dad loved to drink coffee with his buddies early in the morning in downtown Emporia, which he did for decades. They solved the world's problems. He had a garden on the family farm in the country and enjoyed competing with his wife's city garden for bragging rights on the best yield. Above all, He loved His Savior, Jesus Christ.

Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and one granddaughter, Abbey Fowler. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ellinor Fowler; son Kenneth Fowler and wife Christy Fowler, daughter Leona Rupert and son in law James Rupert; son Ronald Fowler and wife Kimberly Fowler; grandchildren Elizabeth Cooper and husband Josiah; Benjamin Fowler and wife Lauren; Jonathan Fowler; Shane Fowler; and Brady Fowler. He was also blessed with four great grandchildren: Micah and Jeremiah Fowler, and Avery and Owen Cooper. His memorial service will be held at Prestonwood Baptist Faith Chapel, 6801 W Park Blvd, Plano, TX 75093 at 10:00 AM on Tuesday September 19, 2017. Graveside services will be held in Emporia Kansas at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Strong Marriages, 5999 Summerside Dr #106, Dallas, TX 75081 or Emporia Church of the Nazarene, 2931 W 24th Ave, Emporia, KS 66801.
