Gerardo Hernandez

After a one-year battle with cancer, Gerardo Hernandez, 60, passed away on Friday July 31, 2020 in Dallas, Texas. He leaves behind his wife, Aurora Mora, and his children, Monica Jordan, Gerardo Hernandez, Jr., Victor Hernandez and David Hernandez.

Gerardo was born on March 18, 1960 in Mexico to father Juan Hernandez, who predeceased him, and Eleazar Escamilla. Gerardo came to the United States in early 80’s. The ever-devoted and hardworking father, Gerardo always sought to build a better life for his family, and succeeded in doing so, having raised his children in Carrollton, Texas with his former wife, Veronica. Gerardo instilled the principles of hard work, respect and kindness in his children, who all succeeded in school and have created successful lives for themselves.

Gerardo was dedicated to his family and work as a construction worker, a job he truly enjoyed until his retirement. Gerardo loved nothing more than to be outdoors grilling and preparing food for his family and friends. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was always the happiest person in the room and always had a smile on his face. He was the epitome of strength, love and bravery. He remained a brave, iron-willed man, even throughout his final months.

Gerardo is survived by his mother, wife and children, as well as his grandchildren, Jaylin, Joey and Elliot, and numerous siblings. He is preceded in death by his father, Juan Hernandez.

Gerardo requested to be cremated. His ashes will be interred at a location to be determined at a later date. At this time, a funeral service cannot be held. Visitation will be held at 3:00 p.m. on August 4, 2020 at Gateway Funerals and Cremation in Dallas, Texas.
