David “Dave” Campbell Dowdy, 76, was born in Santa Fe, NM on October 26, 1948 and passed away on May 6, 2025. He spent his early years in Waco, TX, attending Richfield High School. He played the french horn in the marching band. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy as an avionics technician aircrewman on anti-submarine P2s during the Vietnam war. He also served as a Second Lieutenant in the Texas Army National Guard. Dave enjoyed all things military and could likely recite the entire script from Band of Brothers.
Dave graduated Suma Cum Laude from Southern Methodist University with a degree in Marketing and began his sales career at Xerox, opening one of the first Xerox stores. He won many awards for his salesmanship and enjoyed “relationship” sales.
Throughout his life he enjoyed drawing and in retirement painted award-winning watercolors. A proud member of the Chickasaw Nation, he thoroughly enjoyed displaying and selling his artwork at Chickasaw art festivals in Oklahoma twice a year.
With his sense of humor, Dave was a popular friend, co-worker, boss and beloved family member. He loved his cats, corvettes (owned 13 over the years), television, travel, wife, daughters, granddaughters and current and future sons-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Edith Dowdy and brother Dean of Waco, TX. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda Cress Dowdy of Plano, TX; daughter Ashlee White, husband Grady and granddaughters Elsie and Lena, to whom he was known as “Doodah”, all of Portland, OR; daughter Caitlyn Dowdy and fiancé Dominic Arato of Brooklyn, NY; sister Leslie Warner of Garland, TX; brother Mark Dowdy of Garland, TX; brother Richard Dowdy of Colleyville, TX; brother John Dowdy of Nokomis, FL; and Kitcat.
A service will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Friday, May 23 at 11:00 with a reception immediately following at the Fairfield Inns & Suites, 2100 N Cockrell Hill Road, Dallas.
