Craig Munroe Obituary

Craig left to be with Jesus on Saturday, September 18 at 5:45 p.m. His wife, Linda, and daughter, Wendy, were with him at the time. He experienced a peaceful, pain-free transition. His daughter, son-in-law Rick, and two grandchildren, Landen and Leighton, were able to spend time with him earlier that same day. It was a very special time.

Craig was born July 7, 1947, to William and Ferne Munroe in Grand Island, Nebraska. He grew up in Kearney, Nebraska, and graduated from Kearney High School, where he enjoyed being on the golf team.

The family then moved to Alva, Oklahoma in 1965 where Craig enrolled in Northwestern State College. He graduated in May, 1969, with a double major in Accounting and Economics. He was on the golf team while at NSC.

Craig met his wife, Linda, in the summer of 1967. They became engaged in June of 1968 and married June 6, 1969.

Immediately after graduation from college, Craig began work at Continental Oil Company in Ponca City, OK.

Craig joined the United States Marine Corps in July 1969. He left for boot camp in San Diego on October 13, 1969. He attended Aviation Electronics School in Millington, TN, for several months before being stationed at El Toro Marine Corp Air Station  in 1970. Craig was honorably discharged on October 13, 1973.

Craig and Linda returned to Continental Oil Company in Ponca City, where their daughter, Wendy, was born in December, 1975.

In May, 1977, Craig took a job with Diamond Shamrock in Amarillo, TX, where he worked for over six years. He then was transferred to San Antonio for three years and the summer of 1986 saw him go to work for Maxus Energy in Dallas. The family moved to Rockwall where they lived for 17 years.

Their next move took them to McKinney to be closer to their parents in Oklahoma. And their last move was to Prosper in 2019 to be closer to their only daughter and her family.

Craig retired in 2019 after 50 years of working. No one enjoyed retirement more than he did. He played golf at least three times a week and never missed an activity involving his grandchildren – sporting events, cheer events, school awards, anything. Papa was there. Always!

Craig loved his family and always put them first — the consummate family man. He was a strong Christian man who lived his biblical values.

Craig was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ferne Munroe, and his two brothers, Billy Munroe and Jeff Munroe, all of Oklahoma City.

Craig leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Linda. His daughter, Wendy Munroe Russell, son-in-law, Richard Russell, grandson Landen Craig Russell and granddaughter, Leighton Audrey Russell.

He is also survived by his brother-in law Rusty Mulinix (Kim) of Norman, OK; brother-in-law Larry Mulinix (Terri) of Weatherford, OK; sister-in-law Jan Mulinix of Litchfield Park, AZ; sister-in-law Kathy Young of Charleston, SC. Craig has four nephews, Riley Mulinix, Royal Mulinix, Chad Hurst and Adam Hurst. He also has two nieces, Shelley Wright and Lindsey Ewert.  Grandnephews include Owen Hurst, Jacob Ewert, Luke Ewert, Taylor Wright and Trent Wright.  Grandnieces are Annika Hurst, Ava Hurst and Allie Hurst. Craig adored his extended family.  He also leaves a wealth of friends and golf buddies.

The Memorial Service for Craig will be held at Church in the City, 6005 Dalrock Road in Rowlett, TX. 75088.  It will be held on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at 3:00 pm.
