Charles Thomas “Tom” Schara

June 26, 1942 – September 24, 2025

Obituary

Charles Thomas “Tom” Schara, 83, of Hickory Creek, Texas, entered his heavenly home on September 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Milford, Connecticut, on June 26, 1942, to Elizabeth and Charles Schara, Tom lived a life marked by transformation, faith, and an unwavering love for his family. Though he spent his early years in the Northeast, Texas became his home — a place where his faith, friendships, and family roots grew deep.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Charles Schara; his stepfather, Bill Livermore; his sister, Judith Wood Caldwell; and his daughter, Jennifer Schara Caldwell.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Lana; his children Charles Thomas “Chuck” Schara II ( wife Trish), Traci York (husband Robert), and Michael Schara (wife Elizabeth); his sister Nancy (husband Richard), his grandchildren Lacy Noble, Destiny Foreman, and Noah Schara; and six great-grandchildren who lovingly knew him as “Pops.” He also leaves behind lifelong friends, extended family, and countless acquaintances who were blessed by his laughter, kindness, and unwavering faith.

A career salesman in the advertising specialty industry, Tom was known for his natural gift of persuasion — not only in business but in the way he connected with people. His warmth, humor, and sincerity drew others in and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Tom’s life was forever changed one quiet night in a Providence, Rhode Island hotel room, when he opened a Gideon Bible from the bedside drawer. There, in the stillness, he met the living God — and fittingly, in the city of Providence, he found true providence. In the months that followed, Tom walked to the altar and was baptized, and his four children soon followed him into those same baptismal waters.

From that moment forward, Tom lived his faith with conviction and joy. Whether serving in church ministries, encouraging friends, or spending time with family, he lived out the grace that had transformed him.

He found joy in boating, golf, motorcycling, and family vacations. And among his most cherished symbols was a simple red glass stone — a reminder of his faith in Christ. Tom carried and shared these stones with others as he shared the gospel, offering each one as a tangible sign of the hope he found in Jesus.

“… you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold … but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.“

- 1 Peter 1: 18-19

Tom’s legacy is one of faith, love, and devotion. His was a life that pointed others toward Christ — not through grand speeches, but through consistent love, humility, and laughter. Tom will be missed, but never forgotten.

“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.”

— Matthew 25:23
