Charles Upchurch Obituary

Scotty was born October 18, 1951 and passed away peacefully March 13, 2019 after a year long battle with cancer. He was born in Shreveport, La. to Grady C. and Clara Grace Upchurch. He is survived by sister, Ann Upchurch Clark, her husband Ron, brother, Roger Upchurch, his wife Lee, beloved cousins and Janet and Ron CLark, Jr, and family. He grew up in Richardson, TX, studied sociology at the University of North Texas, worked at the Denton State School for several years after college and later volunteered with Special Olympics. Following a career in sales, living in New Orleans and Scottsdale, he settled in Richardson.

Scotty was a long time member of First United Methodist Church Richardson where he participated in the Walk to Emmaus, the Stephen Ministry, and several men's bible studies. He also worked for the church in later years and enjoyed driving the shuttle on Sunday mornings and interacting with the senior adults.

Some of the things Scotty enjoyed most: the outdoors, trips to Colorado and New Mexico, cooking steaks on a charcoal grill, classic cars (especially his 1973 Cadillac Coupe DeVille Convertible), holidays with family, and visiting relatives at their farm in Louisiana. Scotty enjoyed the simple things in life. But his greatest joy was in helping others and that is how he spent his later years.

All is well. He is home now with his Lord and Savior. RIP Scotsman.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday March 29 at First United Methodist Church Richardson, 503 N Central Expressway, Richardson, TX 75080. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Richardson.
