Ben Allen Slate

Ben was born October 1, 1938 in Piney Flats, Tennessee to Harry Allen Slate and Frances Aldine McKamey Slate.  He grew up in Piney Flats, graduating from Mary Hughes High School.  After high school, he attended the University of Tennessee, where he met his wife of 60 years, Wilma Jean Turner (Jean).  He served in the US Air Force and then went to work at the US Map Service in Washington DC in the sixties, where his sons Mark Allen and Jeff Steven were born.  From DC, and following short stints in Dallas, Memphis and Houston, he and Jean settled in Piney Flats until 1985, when he returned to the Dallas area, where he worked as a painting and wallcovering installation contractor, and where he and Jean spent the rest of their lives. 

Ben passed away May 23, 2025.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jean and his son Mark.  He is survived by his son Jeff and his wife Brenda and his grandchildren Ashley Victoria and Benjamin James Slate.
