Barbara Worrell Obituary

Barbara Lee Worrell was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away on July 4, 2023 at age 71 after a courageous 7-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis and a lung transplant. Her loved ones will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. Barbara loved fireworks and celebrating July 4th, so it is fitting that she passed on this day, a day we will now always celebrate her.

Barbara was born to John and Inez Tutsock on October 2, 1951 in Lyons, NY. She grew up as an Air Force child, living in and traveling to many countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa. This early lifestyle no doubt helped foster her sense of adventure, love of traveling, and interest in other cultures. As a child, she would say to her mom, "I want to have ‘ventures,’ Mama." And ‘ventures’ were plentiful in her life!

After earning her Bachelors of Science in Nursing, Barbara served for 7 years in the US Navy as a nurse at 2 Texas Naval Air Stations. She then became a licensed Family Nurse Practitioner and practiced Family Medicine in the DFW area for decades.  Barbara also volunteered as part of a medical team to help earthquake victims in Central America. Her loving and compassionate heart was evident throughout her nursing career in the way she practiced genuine care with thousands of people over the years.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Barbara. She enjoyed stitchery, cooking, dancing, traveling and making her own adventures in life. Barbara loved a quiet evening with family, her beloved dogs in her lap and a glass of wine in hand. She was an avid reader her entire life, ever pursuing a new story or information to help enrich her life or the lives of others. Barbara loved the ocean and took many excursions to sail, dive, or cruise the tropics. Her pleasant personality was contagious and her life stories were inspirational. She was generous to all.

Barbara is survived by her 4 children, Adrienne (Chas) Watson, Linda (Brandon) Day, Nathan Worrell, David (Ticy) Worrell; 2 sisters, Teresa (Robert) Holt, Rebecca Adams; 7 grandchildren, Meghan Kay Watson, Dylan Worrell, Nash Worrell, Braden Worrell, Kasen Day, Blakely Day, Dexter Worrell, Shaun Fisher; nephews, Andy Holt, Chris Holt, Nick Adams; and many close cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Branch Church, Farmers Branch (Branch Cares Ministry that loved her for all these years) and the Farmers Branch Animal Shelter.
