Alice Hazel Packer, 94, was born in Morristown, New Jersey, on September 28, 1923, the only child of the Rev. Edgar and Hazel (Schelp) Schlueter. She died July 18, 2018, in Dallas, Texas.
Alice made friends wherever she went. She was a smart girl, a supportive wife, and an involved mother; traveled the United States and the world with her husband, Don; and was active in her church and community. She grew up in New Jersey, graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and raised her family in Wichita, Kansas. She enjoyed people and parties, was active in AAUW, Girl Scouts and the Wichita Historical Society, and taught conversational English to foreign students at Wichita State University. After 62 years in Wichita, she moved to Dallas in 2008 to be near family.
She had a wonderful long life, almost 95 years, and we will always remember her positive outlook. You may remember her as Sweet Alice, or as "a hoot," but to us she was Momma / Mother / Nana.
Alice is survived by her children - Lynn Fisher (Bob) of Tulsa, Dwight Packer (Debbie) of Colleyville, Wendy Campbell (Jim) of Dallas, and Sharon Lewis (Andrew) of Colorado Springs; her grandchildren - Chris Fisher (Stacy), Alicia Fisher, James Fisher (Heather), Jeff Fisher (Jennifer), Emily Campbell, Julie Campbell, Sara Lewis, Anne Lewis, Sam Packer, and McKenzie Packer; and her great-grandchildren - Ava Fisher, Grant Fisher, Anderson Fisher, and Lily Fisher. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Don.
Services will be held at 4 pm on Saturday, July 21, at the Monie Chapel at Presbyterian Village North in Dallas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local public television station / PBS.
