Theresa (Terry) Wozencraft, of Dallas, Texas, passed away at home on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, surrounded by loving family and friends. She was 85. Born Theresa Coulard in Newburgh, New York, to Joseph and Francis Coulard. Terry grew up with five brothers and one sister, enjoyed ice skating in the park a few blocks from the family's home in Newburg. She attended Mount St. Mary's High School and was active in athletics at Newburgh Free Academy, where she made friends that would last a lifetime. Her loyalty knew no bounds. She met William Wozencraft, of Big Spring, Texas when he was a cadet at West Point Military Academy, and journeyed to Texas. The couple was married at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dallas, where they settled.
She was a hands-on mother who raised her three daughters not only as a mother, but also as a trusted confidante. She exuded a calm confidence and was a gifted listener, always ready with words of encouragement and serenity. Several times, Terry took her children on the three-day drive from Texas to New York to visit her family. She was a strong woman, a devout Catholic attending St Patrick's Catholic Church in Lake Highlands. She loved Jeopardy and never missed an episode. She burned the dinner rolls so often that it became a family joke, but she made the best chicken spaghetti in Texas. She was a loving and fiercely protective mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was often affectionately referred to by her daughters as Mother Theresa. She possessed a quick witted sense of humor.
She is survived by her daughters, Kim Wozencraft of Stone Ridge, NY, Karen Amos of Dallas, Texas, and Kristen Hamilton of Dallas, Texas; her grandchildren, Parker Amos, Valyrie Kulp, and Max, Dash, and Sasha Stratton; her great-grandchildren, Harrison and Hadley Kulp, and Kali Stratton; brothers Richard Coulard of Holden Beach, North Carolina, Gordon Couillard of Massapequa, NY, and a sister, Jean Coulard of Warrensburg, NY.
Terry loved autumn leaves and the Hudson River, which her hometown sits at the edge of in the Hudson Valley. A family memorial will be held at river's edge in the fall.
