David Hoffmeister Obituary
David Alva Hoffmeister, 82, of Lewisville, Texas passed away on January 19, 2018.
David was born on March 16, 1935 in West Palm Beach, Florida, to James and Irene (Langlois) Hoffmeister. He graduated from St Ann's High School and spent nearly 12 years in college before finally earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from The University of Florida in 1965. He also served in the United States Air Force (December 1957 - June 1960) as an instrument trainer specialist.
Not long after graduating high school, David met the love of his life at a restaurant when she asked him to pass the salt. After 4 years of dating, he married Patricia Ann Cook on February 22, 1958. In nearly 60 years of marriage, they traveled (he was a pilot, after all), raised three sons, and saw the family grow with the addition of daughters-in-law and six grandchildren.
David always had a love of airplanes & flying, earning his pilot license at the age of 16. He worked as a pilot throughout his college years, and after exploring the fields of medicine and law, went on to build his career doing what he loved most. He served as commercial pilot for a number of companies over 40 years, and later an instructor at SimuFlite. In his spare time, David built and flew ultralight & experimental aircraft and spent as much time as he could with his family.
David is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jimmy and his sister Jeanette. He is survived by his wife Patricia Hoffmeister, his three sons: Marc Hoffmeister and his wife Danielle, Chris Hoffmeister, James Hoffmeister and his wife Chelsea; six grandchildren: Karen, Hannah, Ray, Emily, Renee and Davie Ann, and other family and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, February 5th at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Grapevine, Texas, with a reception afterwards. A Rosary will be held prior to the service at 10am in the St Francis of Assisi chapel, and a private burial will follow the funeral at St Maria Goretti Catholic Church. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Gateway Funerals and Cremations.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Outreach at sfatx.org/give. The family wishes to thank Ardent Hospice and Sandy Lake Rehabilitation and Care Center for their care and support during David's final days.
