Joy Fakeye Obituary

Joy Kolawole Abiola (Ajani) Fakeye was born on the 24th day of October 1958 at Ile-Ife. He was the first born of Elder & Mrs. Joseph Fakeye and the first grandchild of Pastor & Mrs. Joseph Adeyemo Adeogun (all of blessed memory).
He started his education at age 3 at the Ife-Olu Children's Boarding School, Osogbo and then moved on to the Seventh Day Adventist Primary School, Inisa. His educational experience then took him to the Adventist Grammar School, Ede and the Adventist Seminary of West Africa, Ilisan (now Babcock University). After a short stay in Ilisan, he moved to South Dakota State University where two of his friends, Owolabi Shitta and Olusanya Oyekoya were also studying. He graduated with a degree in Pharmacy and passed his board exams in 1987. Joy Kolawole Abiola Fakeye made many friends along the way and they were there in his time of need. One cannot talk of his friends without mentioning the special bond he shared with Dr. Deji Adeleke and Mr. Owolabi Shitta.
Kolawole stayed in the United States to pursue his career in pharmacy and was guided by his uncle Isaiah Oyedijo (of blessed memory) and his wife. They took him in as a one of their own children and took care of him throughout his school days. He lost his dear uncle during the course of his illness.
Kolawole relocated to Florida from New York and practiced as a registered pharmacist until his health challenges started and he could no longer practice. He moved to Nigeria in 2011 so he could spend more time with his aged father and dear friends Deji and Owolabi who ensured his comfort in Lagos Nigeria. His marriage was blessed with two daughters, Gabrielle Jadesola and Makayla Ololade.
He was an excellent pharmacist who was always willing to be of service to everyone. He was an astute investor and an excellent player in the stock markets. To family and friends, he never hesitated to give his usual fearless and often frank counsel. He never minced words; he was a man of honor and integrity. He had an unequalled sense of humor: with him, there was never a dull moment. He was indeed a man of the people.
He enjoyed attending the annual Nigerian Adventist in North America (NANA) camps. Between 2011 and 2016, he shuttled between Nigeria and the U.S. to see his daughters and to attend camp. Pastor & Mrs. Sesan Onatunde hosted him during his visits to Florida and always welcomed him to their home and cared for him. His failing health necessitated his relocation to Dallas to be close to family members. He was called to rest on December 31, 2018.
