Guadalupe Fernandez Obituary

GUADALUPE; “God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered, “come to me”… With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away.  Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay.  A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest… God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only take the best..”

Guadalupe Portillo Fernandez passed away on Saturday, January 11th after suffering a stroke on January 9th, at  the age of 79.   In spite of her ailments, she always managed to overcome. She said she "needed her legs to get a little stronger so she could buy another car" and go wherever the wind blew…that was her. She was married to Lorenzo Fernandez with whom she had eight children; Lorenzo, Beatriz, Jose Arturo, Griselda, Hector, Lupe, Monica and Angelica. She had many happy years, shared many laughs, and went on many adventures with her most beloved friend and confidant, Lucy Simms. She was as strong-willed and formidable, as she was selfless; the matriarch of the Fernandez clan.

Guadalupe lived in many places and set up many homes... never staying in any place for too long. Her happiest moment came on the 22nd  of August, when she found her long lost brother, Arturo Portillo-Vasquez. After having lost contact with him for over 40 years; It was hearing his voice, seeing his face, and having him back in her life that made her last months so happy. It was a dream come true and something she considered a gift from God.  He knew he would be calling her home and answered her prayers to see, hug be with her brother again before she left this world.

Guadalupe is preceded in death by her beloved father, Cecilio Portillo, her big brother, Isidoro Moreno, and her closest confidant, Lucy Simms. In her wake, she leaves behind her siblings; Carlos, Arturo and Olga... as well as her children; Lorenzo, Beatriz, Jose Arturo, Griselda, Hector, Lupe, Monica, and Angelica; Her grandchildren, Alexandria, Jessica, Big Hector, Isabel, Andrew, Alondra, Amanda, Diana, Claudia, Youelin, Tikiti, Lorenzo Jr., Edward, Adrian, Diego, Daniel, Michelle, Stephanie, Little Hector, Joseph, Vanessa, Josey, Steven, Mikey, Baldemar Jr. Monica, Malcolm all of whom loved and adored her.

She will be dearly missed by those she has left behind, but we find solace knowing she is in a better place. Rest in Peace.
