Sophia Leija Obituary
Sophia Georgia Leija passed away in her home on Thursday, February 22, 2018.
She was born October 5, 1938 in Spata Attikis, Greece.
She married Roy R Leija on May 10, 1959 in the Greek Orthodox Church in Athens, Greece. They had a second ceremony on May 17, 1959 in Spata Attikis at the Greek Orthodox Church.
Sophia and Roy left for Wichita Falls, Texas in the summer of 1959. Roy was being stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base with the Air Force.
Sophia was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Always wanting to help others, she was loved by everyone who knew her. She was full of life, proud of becoming an American Citizen in 1976, and always proud of her Greek Ancestry. She loved being Greek! She enjoyed spending time with her family, going to garage sales and trips to the casino.
Sophia is preceded in death by her daughter Linda Leija Huffaker.
Sophia is survived by her husband, Roy R. Leija; daughters Kathy Sowards and husband Robert, Tina Leija Darne, Andy Darne and Brenda Leija; sons Gilbert Leija and Jimmy Leija: 7 grand children and 3 great grandchildren.
Services will be on Thursday, March 1st, 2018 at 1000am.
Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 3804 Seymour Rd, Wichita Falls, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in Sophia's honor to The American Heart Association or Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church.
