Marta Perez
Grandmother, Mom, Daughter, teacher and friend!
Marta was born in Havana, Cuba on October 25, 1955 and succumbed to a short term illness on February 4, 2018 at Medical City Plano.
She arrived in Miami, Florida in 2000 with her daughter and mom desiring to build a new life and escape the repressive regime she had lived under most of her life. She was an avid music lover and music teacher in Cuba. She achieved her Master in Music at an early age and taught music for many years. Her love of teaching never left her. When she arrived she worked hard and fulfilled her dream of teaching again by receiving her Master of Arts in Spanish, affording her the ability to work as a language arts teacher in local colleges and universities. She moved to the Dallas area in 2014 to support her daughter and grandchildren. She began to work for the University of North Texas, Richland College, and Brookhaven DCCCD. She loved her students and always spoke to her family about how fulfilling it was to interact with young adults and open their minds to the spanish language. She was a caring doting grandmother to Jarm and Jared, her surviving grandsons. She was her daughter Ruth's strong shoulder and encourager. Her extended cousins and family will miss her immensely and desire her legacy of learning and love of music to be passed on to her grandchildren and students.
We welcome all your thoughts, prayers, and comments for the family and thank you in advance for caring. She will be having a memorial service later this year in Arizona.
