John "Johnny" Howard Balajka, 72, of Dallas, TX, passed away on Sunday 10/29/2017 after a long battle with COPD.
The funeral service will be held on Friday 11/10/2017 at 11:30 AM at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211. Reverend Robert G. Painter will be officiating. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Gateway Funerals and Cremation.
Johnny was born in Houston, TX, on 11/30/1944. He graduated from W.H. Adamson High School in 1962, and he joined the Army in 1963. He proudly served his country for three years. After he was honorably discharged in 1966, he received an Associates degree from Richland College in 1975.
Johnny worked in the Admissions Department for Brookhaven College for over 20 years. An avid reader, Johnny devoured murder mystery novels by the dozen. He had a passion for classic movies and Old Hollywood, making him the film historian for his friends and family. He also loved watching college football and spending time with those he loved.
Johnny is survived by daughter Holli, and husband Clay Cruse of Richardson, brother-in-law Robert G. Painter of Waco, niece Sara, and husband David Risinger of Waco, nephew Luke Painter, and wife Michelle Dedman of Corvallis, Oregon, nephew Mark Painter of Raton, New Mexico, grandson Aden Cruse of Richardson, granddaughter Kylie Cruse of Bryan, TX and other family and friends.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Noma Balajka and his sister Joan Painter.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to TeamConnor Childhood Cancer Foundation, 5420 Lyndon B. Johnson Frwy., Suite 1300, Dallas, TX 75240. The family of Johnny Balajka wishes to thank the Hospice Unit at the Dallas VA for their loving care and support.
