Frederick Key Obituary
Dr. Frederick Maurice Key, Jr., 85, of Trophy Club, TX, died recently of cardiac disease.
A Celebration of His Life will be held on June 9, 2016, at the Temple Theater in Meridian, MS, at 5:30pm. Arrangements for a Celebration in the Dallas-Fort Worth area will be forthcoming.
Fred was born in Meridian in 1931.He graduated from Meridian High School and continued on to receive a Medical Degree from the University of Mississippi.
Dr. Key served his country honorably in the Air Force as a Flight Surgeon during the Korean and the Vietnamese conflicts. He retired as a Lt. Col. after 20 yrs. He then devoted the rest of his career to Emergency Room care in the DFW Metroplex. He retired from Wise Regional Hospital at the end of 2015. He loved the challenges of the ER and willingly volunteered for nights and holidays so that the younger doctors could be home with their families.
He was a kind-hearted, soft-spoken, gentle soul who lived in a glorious time of the Golden Age of Flight. He came from a long line of distinguished and historical personages going back to the era of George Washington. His own father and uncle, The Flying Key Brothers, are represented and on permanent display for their flying accomplishments in the Air and Space Museum in the Smithsonian Institute. Fred became a pilot and worked for his father at Key Field in Meridian before he got his driver's license. Following his grandfather around as a child and teenager inspired him to walk in Papa Key's footsteps, and go to medical school.
Fred and his first wife, Elna, had two children, Rick and Cary. His two grandchildren are Cassidy and Sara. His two great-grandchildren are Evan and Raegen. His second marriage brought two girls, Crystie and Heather.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of twenty years, Rene, family and friends.
