Donald Cherveny Obituary

Donald George Cherveny passed away in Lewisville, TX, on May 20, 2016 at the age of 95. He was the youngest child of Albert and Anna (Krajicek) Cherveny, born at home in Belle Plaine, Iowa on March 4, 1921. He served in World War II as a boat dispatcher in England. He returned home to a successful career as an electrical engineer at General Motors Electro-Motive Division in LaGrange Illinois, where diesel locomotives were produced. He married Lillian Lach of Harvey, IL and they suffered the loss of two babies before being blessed with twins Audrey and Albert and then daughter Marilyn. He was loved by all for his kindness, sense of humor and even temperament.

After Donald's successful career, he enjoyed retirement while living in Belle Plaine IA, Spring Hill FL, Edinburg TX, Denton TX and Lewisville TX. Everywhere he lived, he had beautiful gardens that produced abundantly. He was also a talented photographer. Donald was a loving father and grandfather, and will be sorely missed.

He is survived by: children Audrey Swanson of Carrollton, Texas, Albert Cherveny of Salina, Kansas and Marilyn Zuefeldt and husband Paul of Argyle, Texas; his six grandsons Andrew, Jeff, and Mark Swanson and Anthony, Alan and Aaron Zuefeldt. He is preceded in death by his three siblings, Mildred Knuth, Albert Cherveny and Robert Cherveny.

Graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Belle Plaine, Iowa at 2pm on Sunday, May 29. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the charity of your choice.
