Audrey Barnard Obituary

drey L. Barnard, age 79, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016, a short year and a day after the passing of her beloved husband, Clayton. As they were always together, we pray that Audrey has once again found her partner in life, and that they are dancing together in Heaven.

Audrey is survived by her three children, Mark (Cathy) Barnard of Deerfield, NH, Karline (Mark) Boehm of Wylie, TX, and Keith (Carrie) Barnard of Wayland, NY; seven grandchildren, Jenna and Chad Boehm, Erin and Ryan Barnard, and Miranda, Zachary, and Audrianna Barnard; Sisters, Joanne Walden of Victor, NY, Charlotte (David) Shuck of Batavia, Illinois, and Sylvia Haight of Farmington, NY; Sister-in-law, Karen (Ange) Milazzo of Saint Cloud, FL; Brothers-in-law, Myron (Sandy) Barnard of Rochester, NY and Bruce (Beth) Barnard of Saint Cloud, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, dear friends, Bloomfield students, and fellow Eastern Star members, all of whom she truly adored. She was predeceased by her parents.

Audrey was born in Avoca, NY on October 7, 1936, the first of four daughters, to Lucille and Howard Lyke. At the age of 10, Audrey and her family moved to a large cattle farm in Howard, NY, where she and her sisters grew up. Though it was a hard life growing up on a dairy farm -- helping to keep the home running while her parents worked, cleaning milk cans, performing daily farm chores before and after school, and helping to raise her three sisters -- Audrey's experiences served to shape her into an uncommonly kind and caring woman who always strived for doing things the right and proper way. As many will attest, always sharp and organized, Audrey believed that cleanliness was truly next to Godliness.

Audrey graduated from Avoca Central High School in 1954 and went on to graduate from the Hornell Business School in Hornell, NY in 1955. After business school, Audrey worked for many years at the Eastman Kodak company in Rochester, NY, beginning in the secretarial pool and working her way up to assisting various executives. While working at Kodak, Audrey met the love of her life and eventual husband of 58 years, Clayton Barnard. They were married at the Lutheran Church off of Dewey Avenue in Rochester, NY on May 25, 1957 and eventually built their home and their lives in Bloomfield, NY.

Following the birth of her children, Audrey left Kodak to be a stay-at-home Mom until they reached school age. Her children being of utmost importance to her, Audrey took a job at the Bloomfield Elementary School, moving to the Bloomfield High School as her children grew, working as a teacher's aid in the media and library departments. It was in the Bloomfield School system where she made friends with many of the teachers, and where she met and touched the lives of so many other Bloomfield students, always offering them kind words of encouragement and an ever-present smile. After her children graduated from High School, Audrey once again joined the workforce at Rhône-Poulenc, an office of which was located in Bloomfield, rounding out her career as an executive assistant until her retirement.

Audrey enjoyed working with the area youth in Scouting, as a Sunday School teacher, and as a cheerleader coach. She started the Cub Scout troop in Bloomfield at the St. Bridget's rectory with her husband Clayt, which became the largest cub scout troop in the area with 75 boys joining as members. She was a Cub Scout and Webelos Den Mother for many years and she took tremendous pride in all of the young men in her troop. As a Sunday School teacher, Audrey taught weekly classes at the United Methodist Church in Bloomfield, coordinated various outings, countless craft projects, and hosted pancake breakfasts for the Sunday School students and their families at her home. In addition, Audrey participated at many fundraising dinners and activities for the United Methodist church, always willing to provide a helping hand. As her husband started the Vince Lombardi football league in Bloomfield, NY (the Bloomfield Steelers), Audrey became one of the first cheerleader coaches for many of the Bloomfield girls who eventually went on to cheer for the High School teams (the Bloomfield Bombers). She remembered all of her cheerleaders fondly and was equally proud of the dedicated and talented young women they became.

Audrey was active in the Bloomfield community, having served on the Village of East Bloomfield Planning Board. In addition, Audrey was a very active member of the Eastern Star, taking deserved pride in receiving her 60 year pin for having joined the Eastern Star organization in February, 1955 (and being involved even earlier with the Rainbow Girls during her youth). She was a member of the Gah-A-Yan-Duk Chapter (#566) of the Eastern Star (Bloomfield, NY) since 2002. As an Eastern Star member, Audrey was a past Matron (2009) and an Right Worthy Associate Grand Warder (2015), sharing that honor with her husband, Clayton (a past Patron and Right Worthy Associate Grand Sentinal). She loved her Eastern Star brothers and sisters, speaking of them often and communicating with them in her declining health, and she held their friendships very close to her heart. She participated in numerous fundraisers within Eastern Star, taking great pride in their chapter, her membership, and in all of the wonderful things that they were able to accomplish for their community.

It was certainly no secret that Audrey loved her house in Bloomfield. To her, the idea of hearth and home was very important, a great sense of pride, and a reflection of who she was -- clean, modest, and welcoming. Audrey was always at her best hosting many parties, [fun and raucous] progressive dinners, and holiday gatherings with her family and friends; especially loving Christmas, her favorite holiday of all. Having to leave her home and her many friends in Bloomfield was one of the most difficult decisions Audrey ever had to make, but she was truly happy to be living in Texas with her daughter Karline, who was more than a daughter and constant caregiver, but who had always been Audrey's closest and dearest friend.

Most of all, Audrey loved spending any free time with her husband and family, whether at home or away. She was especially proud of her children and grandchildren and loved sharing in their lives. She was truly happiest when surrounded by her loved ones and she enjoyed traveling with her husband on trips and to visit her children and grandchildren. From school vacation trips to the Florida and Carolina coasts with family, colleagues, and dear friends from Bloomfield Central High School; vacations to Disney World with her family; jaunts to the Southern Tier for weekend picnics or to loudly cheer on her grandchildren in cheerleader competitions, football games, and wrestling matches; frequent visits to see her children and grandchildren in New England and Texas for sightseeing, baseball games, and graduations; and extensive travel in the Western part of the US with her daughter and her family; Audrey loved leisure time spent with those most dear to her and cherished each and every moment.

A memorial service will be held on August 13th, 2016 at 10am at the Bloomfield Methodist Church. Private interment will be held at White Haven Cemetery in Pittsford, NY.
